My work is driven by texture, material and process. Rather than painting images, I build surfaces, layer by layer, allowing each piece to evolve through experimentation, instinct and controlled chance.

I didn’t come to art through formal training or art school. Instead, this body of work has grown from a lifelong fascination with art, design and making things. When time finally allowed me to pursue that curiosity fully, I discovered that conventional brush painting held little interest. I was far more drawn to constructing paintings than simply painting them.

The materials themselves have become part of the conversation. Paint, texture paste, sand, paper and found materials are applied with trowels, wooden tools, rags, sponges and whatever else helps create the surface I’m searching for. Layers are built, scraped back, damaged and rebuilt again. Every mark leaves a trace of the decisions that came before it.

I’m fascinated by the tension between control and accident. Some elements are carefully considered, while others emerge unexpectedly through the behaviour of the materials themselves. Those moments of unpredictability often become the most important part of the finished work.

Each painting is entirely original and develops without a fixed destination. Rather than reproducing an idea, I prefer to discover one. The finished piece is a record of that journey through a balance of texture, depth, movement and restraint.

If my work invites you to pause and look a little longer, then it has achieved exactly what I hoped it would.
